Eittem launched commercially in 2024, although research and development began in earnest in 2019. The years leading up to launch were dedicated to developing a proprietary process capable of supporting forms of this complexity and precision. During this time, tools were designed and fabricated specifically for our work, materials were tested and refined, and craftspeople were trained to operate at the intersection of hand skill and advanced technology.
Each Eittem reflects not only the time required to make the object itself, but the years spent building the knowledge, tools, and processes that make it possible.
Design at Eittem begins with drawing. Each form is sketched in pencil from multiple perspectives, considered as a three-dimensional object from the outset. Shapes are developed through proportion, balance, and how the object engages the body when carried or held. A form is not considered complete until it is aesthetically beautiful and feels fully resolved in the hand.
Eittem objects move continuously between hand, sketch, and digital form until the object feels inevitable.
Once a form is resolved, making begins. The design is verbally translated into digital space with extreme specificity, each tool path and cutting sequence is carefully programmed to achieve tolerances measured in thousandths of an inch. This level of precision is essential to the integrity of the object and exceeds what hand alone can achieve. After carving, every piece returns to the cradle of the hand where sanding, finishing, assembly, and refinement unfold over weeks rather than hours.
Technology is used not to replace the hand, but to extend what the hand can achieve.
