A Letter from the Journal

We are writing to you on an early fall afternoon in New York City, on the eve of Eittem’s launch, when the cool air and bustling hum of the avenues instills a grounded appreciation for this city and the culture teeming from it. Here, the pursuit of art and design is a revered endeavor, the city an endless forest of creative intrigue. There are leaves of inspiration to turn over and admire at every street corner.

The journal will thoughtfully peruse these leaves, not only in New York, but throughout the worlds of art, design, craftsmanship, and materials. To begin, we explore the long-standing history of the silver hallmark, a reminder of how a commitment to craft and quality often spans generations. We also glance into the Eittem production studio, an unexpected space found down the long hall of a historic building in Chelsea, where the process to create the bags unfolds. The contextualization of objects within these stories allows for their meaning to deepen and blossom.

We hope that in visiting the journal, your attention is not misdirected but captivated. We write to capture and illuminate the subjects that intrigue us, and offer connection to our inspiration and processes. Under the Eittem microscope, themes surrounding creativity are crisped and concentrated to share our real-time thoughts and ideas.
